First off, I am stunned that this great book has never been reviewed on Amazon. As a lifetime student of the combat arts, specifically the Japanese martial arts, this fantastic book has been in my personal library for more than twenty years. This is a large 9 by 12 inch hardcover 192 page tome. It is filled with (more than 250) classic illustrations and photographs. This excellent book first explains what Bushido means and the rise of the Samurai class in the introduction. It moves to covering the earliest Samurai, the first Shoguns, the Zen connection to the philosophy of Bushido, the warrior generals, the artistic tradition and the samurai, Confucian Bushido, The ways, Fanatical Bushido, Anti-Bushido and the Legacy of Bushido. A very detailed index section is also included in this text.
There are many books out today on the Samurai and their philosophy of Bushido, and even though this book was originally published in 1989, it is still one of the best books ever written on Bushido. The incredible and rare Japanese drawings in this book make this a classic and collectible text.
